Bandu

I recently realised how much I enjoy board games. My theory is that all adults enjoy play but we rarely indulge because we worry about appearing childish. Well, I don’t worry about appearing childish. I am childish in many ways.

A couple of months ago, I started going to a cafe that offers a huge variety of board games. I usually played with my hubby and sister and we had a blast. I discovered how much fun dexterity games are.

Yesterday, I bought the game Bandu (also known as Bausack). I had never played it before but I could tell that it was good.

And, man, it was really, really good!

The point of the game is to build the tallest tower using whatever weird-shaped building blocks you have.  There are several variations of the game but all require dexterity, strategy, creative thinking and a bit of patience (although I personally have none of the latter). Not only is the gameplay excellent but it also makes you laugh a lot. Just what I wanted.

I can’t wait to play again on the weekend. Just the thought makes me tingly with excitement! (Yep, I am indeed childish.)

Now that I discovered how much I like unusual board games, I think I will adopt my sister’s idea and create a small collection of my favourites.  I have already spotted a couple I’m interested in but I will have to play them first before investing in them.

No, this is obviously not the edible kind of cookie we are talking about.

This is Cookie, one of my two feline flecks of sunshine.

She loves lying and napping on the kitchen table (fortunately not when we are using it).

I have tried everything to get her to stop (positive and negative reinforcement, hissing at her, placing a spiky mat on the table etc.)  but she obviously loves it too much to stop.

So be it. Seeing her on the table makes me smile.

Cat antics invariably make me smile. Silly captions also make me smile.

A daily dose of LOLcats (via an RSS feed subscription) is the perfect antidote to a bad mood (and Monday morning syndrome).

If you are familiar with the ways of cats, you will laugh out loud.

Good drawing implements brighten my day because my energy goes to designing rather than fighting with materials.

My battery-operated eraser is a joy to use: It’s cheap, portable and does a great job of erasing unnecessary pencil strokes that a regular eraser is too large to wipe out.

If only mistakes in life were so easy to put right…

Woke up in a semi-foul mood because of the grey, drizzly weather. Went out and amid the greyness, a splash of eye-popping red caught my eye.

A gorgeous rose complete with natural dew drops. (As opposed to the drops sprayed on by photographers to make pretty pictures.)

I looked at it in awe, smiled and took a quick snapshot.
